I came to Kansas City from Colorado in 1987. After graduation from William Jewell College, newspaper jobs cast me out to Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota, but Lorie and I found our way back to KC by 1996. Now, to steal a phrase from Lewis Grizzard, I've nailed my feet to the ground. There are more than enough stories here to keep me working for a lifetime. It's a city full of easy grace, more humility than it needs to have, a place where home makes sense.
A Thousand Stories is journalism based on a simple premise -- give people basic writing tools and let them tell their own stories.
