(Continued from previous page) The church and I changed a lot as I reached adulthood. The church eased up on preaching guilt, encourages more participation by its members and active dialogue between Catholics and non-Catholics. Some of the sins were reclassified and the act of confession changed to the act of reconciliation. No more fasting the night before and the communion wafer can now be chewed. Short of premeditated murder, there were really not many occasions of mortal sin after all. What a relief. Best of all, I could look forward to a more diverse heaven if and when I got there. It seems the church has decided you non-Catholics were not heathens after all. |
